An Early Look at Offensive Player of the Year

With 11 weeks of the 2024 NFL season down, many people are starting to come up with their picks on who will win the 2024 AP Offensive Player of the Year award . There are a handful of players who have been playing at an incredible level, with some on pace for record breaking seasons. While there is still plenty left of the 2024 season, it's definitely worth taking a quick look at how the award is shaking up so we can have an idea of what it might look like right before the award is given out in February. Here are two potential candidates who could win the award, who are the leading favorites.      Firstly, it appears as though one of the current favorites is Ravens RB Derrick Henry  ( @last_king_2 ) who currently has the second highest betting odds on Draft Kings to win the award (+140)  as of Week 11. Henry is having a historic season, currently posting 1,185 rushing yards on 197 carries with 13 rushing touchdowns and 2 receiving touchdowns ...

Overcriticized: Lamar Jackson

Image
In today’s NFL, we are spoiled with great quarterback play that gives us plenty of highlights and spectacular plays. The media’s job is to cover these quarterbacks and how exactly they perform over the course of the season. We see a lot of praise for these quarterbacks in the media, but there’s one quarterback who rarely sees the praise he rightfully deserves: Lamar Jackson ( @new_era8 ). Despite winning two MVP awards and his leadership of a consistently efficient Ravens offense, the quarterback still receives unfair criticism of his play. Lamar Jackson breaks records and turns in amazing performances, but when he plays poorly, the media focuses more on his shortcomings. Lamar Jackson is in elite company with NFL players who have won two or more MVP awards , with players like Peyton Manning, Tom Brady, Johnny Unitas, and more. Lamar won the award in both 2019 and 2023 , despite having only played 7 seasons as of 2024. Lamar also consistently breaks long-time standing records in th...

The Race for MVP

We're 6 games into the NFL season, roughly a third of the way through, however we've already seen some spectacular football from a few different MVP runners so far. What has not changed yet about this award this season is the lack of non-quarterbacks on this list of early frontrunners. All of the candidates I will discuss in this blog post are all quarterbacks. So, nothing much different here in this department, sadly. Unless another non-QB completely wows us by the end of the season... Two-time MVP Baltimore Ravens QB Lamar Jackson ( @new_era8 ) appears to be the early frontrunner for the award and it's hard to argue for a case against  him. After starting slow with two losses to begin the season (to Kansas City and Las Vegas), Jackson has been on a tear with 4 straight wins (over Dallas, Buffalo, Cincinnati, and Washington). Not only is 4 straight wins impressive, but they were all done against prestigious quarterbacks like Cowboys QB Dak Prescott, Bills QB Josh Allen, B...

The Fall of the Tight End?

In recent years, we've watched tight ends in the National Football League punch defenses in the mouth and dominate on offense. But there's a growing trend within the first three weeks of the 2024 NFL season... some of them are MIA. So far, the leading TE in receiving yards this season (as of week 4) is Philadelphia Eagles TE Dallas Goedert , with 239 on 17 receptions (with 170 of these yards earned in week 3 against New Orleans. This isn't incredibly surprising, but what is  surprising is the rest of the list . Raiders rookie TE Brock Bowers is second, Bengals TE Mike Gesicki ranks third, Ravens TE Isaiah Likely ranks fourth, and Patriots TE Hunter Henry ranks fifth. Notice how odd this list looks to begin the season? None of the tight ends who finished top 10 in yards last season are top 5 to start this season. Notable names like George Kittle , Sam LaPorta , and Travis Kelce are not on this list. In fact -- George Kittle is the only tight end who finished top 10 in ...

Illegal Formation, the Baltimore Ravens, and "What-If"

The 2024-25 NFL season kicked off last weekend, and America rejoiced - football was back. 32 professional football teams prepared all offseason sculpting and building a team worthy enough to hoist the Lombardi trophy in New Orleans, but only one of them will actually seize that opportunity. Fans of all teams could finally watch their favorite teams once more after a long and grueling offseason. The NFL kicked off with a very anticipated rematch of the 2024 AFC Championship game with the Kansas City Chiefs hosting the visiting Baltimore Ravens on Thursday Night Football. With how close their last matchup ended, resulting in the Ravens falling short of the Chiefs 17-10 , fans were eager to watch Lamar Jackson get his revenge after KC had just won the Super Bowl. So much so in fact, that the NFL audience made Thursday night's game the most watched opening game in NFL history , with 28.9M total viewers. During the NFL offseason, the league let teams know that they were going to be more...
